Nursing Home Staffing Public Awareness Campaign Has Officially Launched

June 25, 2014

The Consumer Voice Nursing Home Staffing Public Awareness Campaign has officially launched!  A successful virtual kickoff webinar yesterday outlined the short-term goal of the campaign to educate residents, families and the public, along with members of Congress, about the need for increased staffing in nursing homes, with a long-term goal of requiring that residents receive at least 4.1 hours of nursing care (care from certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses and registered nurse) every day.  Currently federal regulations only require nursing homes to provide “sufficient” nursing staff to meet residents’ needs.  Research has established that higher levels of staffing are associated with better care.

During the webinar yesterday, we set a goal of contacting 50 different legislators by 3:15 ET today with messages of support for improved nursing home staffing standards. Amazing advocacy efforts allowed us to exceed our goal by sending 236 messages to over 100 legislators in support of better staffing!  Join the effort and send your message now!

You can also get the word out about stronger staffing by sending us a photo saying “4.1 It CAN Be Done!” Email photos to info@theconsumervoice.org, tweet us @ConsumerVoices or post it on our Facebook page.
