Celebrating 50 Years
1975-2025

For half a century, Consumer Voice has worked tirelessly to empower long-term care residents, their families, and advocates as they seek quality care and services, quality of life, and protection of rights.

Selected Highlights from Our 50 Years

Our Vision & Mission

Through the decades, Consumer Voice has stood steadfast in carrying out our mission to:

Advocate

Advocate for public policies that support consumers’ needs in all long-term care settings.

Empower & Educate

Empower and educate consumers and families with the knowledge and tools they need to advocate for themselves.

Train & Support

Train and support individuals and groups that empower and advocate for consumers of long-term care.

Promote

Promote the critical role of direct-care workers and best practices in quality care delivery.

Consumer Voice envisions a world in which all long-term care consumers are treated with respect and dignity, and have a wide range of affordable, quality options across all settings.

National Citizens Coalition for Nursing Home Reform, Founded 1975

The National Citizens’ Coalition for Nursing Home Reform (NCCNHR, now the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care) was organized in June 1975 when representatives from various citizen groups and ombudsman programs met together in Washington, D.C. Elma Holder was the principal organizer of the Coalition, for which she served as Executive Director for more than twenty years. Through the 1970s and 1980s, NCCNHR conducted instrumental national and local programming and public policy advocacy on behalf of nursing home residents and workers.
