Other Ways to Give

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions

Consider donating from your required annual IRA distribution directly to Consumer Voice.  When distributions are sent directly to a charitable organization, individuals will not pay taxes on the amount. The qualified charitable distribution is not considered income if donated directly.  Contact your financial advisor for more information.

Donations of Stock

Transferring your stock or mutual fund to Consumer Voice is a simple and tax-efficient way to make a contribution.  Contact Alejandra Ona at
aona@theconsumervoice.org for more information.

Donor-Advised Funds

Donor-Advised Funds (DAF) are an easy way to contribute to causes important to you while receiving tax benefits. DAFs allow you to receive an immediate tax deduction for your contribution and grow your funds in an investment account. Contact your financial advisor to set up your DAF contribution to Consumer Voice.

For more information about any of these giving opportunities, contact info@theconsumervoice.org.

President's Circle of Leaders

The President’s Circle of Leaders is a distinguished group of donors who believe in Consumer Voice’s mission. President’s Circle members are individuals who commit to donating a total of $1000 or more in a calendar year (via one gift or via monthly or quarterly gifts totaling $1000 or more). Each member receives a President’s Circle lapel pin, a complimentary one year membership, discounts on publications and conference registration, and acknowledgement on our website. (Of course, you may choose to opt out or be listed anonymously). President’s Circle members are also invited to participate in regular calls with staff and Board members where they will receive updates on the latest Consumer Voice activities, as well as discuss the most current issues Consumer Voice is addressing on the policy and program fronts.

Join the President’s Circle of Leaders now by making a donation of $1000 or more. Questions? Contact Consumer Voice Executive Director Lori Smetanka at lsmetanka@theconsumervoice.org.

Jackie Koenig Memorial Internship Fund

Jackie Koenig was the Consumer Voice’s first Communications Director who later became director of the National Long-Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center. As a treasured friend and co-worker, one of Jackie’s many passions was mentoring new people in gerontology, a practice she began in the 1980s when she served as a local ombudsman in Ohio and as a member of the Consumer Voice’s Board of Directors. She was passionate about her advocacy work and did not hesitate to pass on her enthusiasm to the many interns she had been privileged to tutor. For this reason, family and friends decided to honor Jackie’s legacy by establishing a special fund to support the Jackie Koenig Memorial Internship Program.  Jackie passed in 1998, but the memories of her unique brand of advocacy live on. Throughout the year, students and recent graduates are selected to serve as interns at the Consumer Voice. Staff rely heavily on the support of interns to complete important advocacy and policy work, and the students likewise gain valuable, real-world experience.

Contributions Policy

The Consumer Voice is committed to improving the quality of life and care of residents of the nation’s long-term care consumers and representing their interests without compromise or restraint. The Consumer Voice cherishes its 45-year history of independence in speaking and acting on behalf of the best care possible in the nation’s nursing homes and other long-term care settings. To preserve the Consumer Voice’s independence and freedom to act, the following codifies the policy with regard to sources of financial support:

The Consumer Voice does not accept financial support from the nursing home provider industry or any foundation closely associated with such industry. Compensation from the above entities may be accepted in the following limited circumstances: purchase of Consumer Voice publications and products, (non-voting) membership dues, annual meeting or other conference registration and reimbursement of expenses for meeting participation and the like.
